Maroon is the official color of the University of Chicago. Use or specify a color similar to Pantone® 202 for maroon. Remember that the appearance of a specified ink can vary greatly depending on the texture and color of the paper on which it is printed.

Chicago maroon can be produced in four-color process using the following formula:
C-0, M-100, Y-65, and K-47. The RGB formula is: R-134, G-0, B-24.

Web Color
Maroon for Web use is the hexadecimal value 800000.

Other Colors
Gray is often used as a complementary color to maroon, although it has no official status. Pantone 430 (dark gray) or Pantone 428 (medium gray) can be attractive choices.

Chicago dark gray can be closely matched with a 65 percent screen of black. Chicago medium gray can be closely matched with a 40 percent screen of black.

The University shield, seal, and wordmarks may appear in maroon, black, gray, or white. They may not appear in any other color. It is OK to combine maroon and black in a wordmark, but please consult with Publications & Creative Services before making any adjustments.

The Pantone colors for the three-color version of the color shield are: 1795 (red), 114 (yellow), and black. Note that maroon does not appear in the color shield.
